WHAT IS IT?
A program established by the California Legislature that provides low-income good drivers who live in eligible counties in California with low cost insurance coverage. This pilot program, which is administered by the California Automobile Assigned Risk Plan (CAARP), became effective on July 1, 2000, for qualified residents of Los Angeles County and the City and County of San Francisco only.
Effective
April 1, 2006, the Program was expanded to qualified residents of Alameda, Fresno, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego counties.
On
June 1, 2006, eight additional counties were added to the Program: Contra Costa, Imperial, Kern, Sacramento, San Joaquin, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Stanislaus, for a total of sixteen eligible counties.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Applicant must meet the following eligibility requirements:
1.Household annual income before taxes, cannot exceed 250% of the federal poverty level.
2.Must be at least 19 years old and have been continuously licensed in the US or Canada for the previous 3 years or 18 months if previous driving experience in a foreign country.
3.No more than one moving violation or property damage only accident in which the driver was at fault in past 3 years.
4.No at fault accident with BI or death in the past 3 years.
5.No felony or misdemeanor convictions in violation of Vehicle Code on DMV record.
6.Is not a college student claimed as a dependent of another person for tax purposes.
7.Has no other automobile liability insurance coverage over and above this policy.
8.Value of vehicle cannot be more than $20,000.00.
9.Cannot have more than 2 vehicles per person insured through the CA Low Cost Auto Insurance Program.
10.Cannot have other liability insurance coverage in the household. However, you may purchase Physical Damage Coverage elsewhere. You may also purchase optional Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury and Medical Payment coverage through the Program.

If there are one or more unmarried male drivers between the ages of 19-24, inclusive, who reside in the household, the base rate would be surcharged an additional 25%.

* There will be a $4.00 per installment fee for Payment Options 2, 3 & 4. Bi-monthly means every other month a payment is due. No Outside Premium Financing is allowed!
